Sieben Polk employees raised over $2000 for the 2008 Hastings Adopt-A-Family project. The program was coordinated by Hastings Family Services (HFS). HFS is a community based nonprofit agency working to help meet the basic needs of community members facing financial crisis. HFS and its volunteers serve people in the community who lack food, clothing, shelter, support, or transportation, incluidng an increasing number of the working poor and others whose needs may not be evident. The Sieben Polk Law Firm Sponsors the 2008 Gobble Gait

The Sieben Polk Law Firm is a proud sponsor of the 2008 Gobble Gait. In 1998, Gobble Gait started as a small race to raise additional money for the Hastings Family Service. 11 years later, the Gobble Gait is no longer a small race. With over 1,900 runners and 150 sponsors, Gobble Gait has raised over $285,000 for Hastings Family Service. The funds are used by Hastings Family Service to buy food, clothing, and offer assistance to families in need of basic necessities. The 2008 race had 2,150 runners, raised $70,000, and 3,000 pounds of food was collected. For more information, please visit www.gobblegait.com.

Innocence Project of Minnesota

Because Sieben Polk is committed to a fair, impartial and ethical legal system, we proudly support the Innocence Project of Minnesota. Established in 2002, the Innocence Project of Minnesota is a private, volunteer based, non-profit organization that provides pro bono investigative and legal assistance to prisoners trying to prove their innocence. IPMN investigates potential claims of wrongful conviction from prisoners convicted of crimes in Minnesota. The goal of the project is keep innocent people from being convicted and to free people imprisoned for crimes they did not commit. For more information, please visit: www.ipmn.org.

Avenues For Homeless Youth

The attorneys at Sieben Polk joined other Minnesota trial lawyers to provide necessary financial and physical resources for the children at Avenues for Homeless Youth in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Avenues for Homeless Youth is an emergency shelter which provides short term housing and support services for homeless youth in a safe and nurturing environment. Through such service, Avenues seeks to help youth achieve their personal goals and find a postive transition into young adulthood.

Avenues for Homeless Youth was formed in 1993 to respond to the severe lack of housing and support services for Minnesota’s homeless youth. While many services were available to assist with family reunification, there was no age-appropriate and safe shelter designated for homeless youth who could not be reunited with their families due to severe abuse, abandonment, neglect or exploitaion. Facing adult issues – lack of housing, unemployment, imcomplete education and lack of access to healthcare – without a safe program to help them, most of these youth are destined to life on the streets.

Sieben Polk Honored With First Judicial District Pro Bono Award

The attorneys at Sieben Polk received the 2008 First Judicial District Pro Bono Award for volunteering and financially supporting Legal Assistance of Dakota County. Sieben Polk is proud to financially support Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services (SMRLS). SMRLS lawyers and paralegals provide free legal representation and advice to low income people in 33 counties of southern Minnesota. Priority cases include access to public assistance, obtaining and maintaining shelter, and protection from domestic abuse.
