Mesothelioma: A diagnosis that often stems from the workplace

Minnesota workers have often been placed at risk for asbestos injuries. Sadly, in many situations, the employers in question knew there were risks, but for various reasons, either did not inform their workers or failed to provide proper training and equipment to help keep them safe. Employers are legally obligated to do so. Often, a worker learns of his or her injury when a doctor diagnoses him or her with mesothelioma.

The lungs, heart and other organs of the body are lined with tissue that is known as mesothelium. When tumors develop in the tissues, it is called mesothelioma, which often develops into malignancy. Mesothelioma cancer is a terminal disease, meaning there is no known cure so the illness ultimately results in death.

If you have an undiagnosed case of mesothelioma, you might first become aware of symptoms when a lingering cough develops or pain in your chest or abdomen becomes either intermittent or constant. You may also lose weight without trying to or notice swelling or lumps in your stomach area. Chronic fatigue is another common symptom of this disease.

In addition to your medical team, you may also want to speak with an attorney who is well-versed in asbestos litigation if you have been diagnosed with mesothelioma and you believe you contracted it in the workplace. Sieben Polk P.A., is committed to helping Minnesota victims of asbestos injuries seek full financial accountability against negligent employers. When you request a consultation, we can help you take the first steps toward seeking justice.
